CommonSlate — Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

Last updated:

1. What CommonSlate is

CommonSlate is a personal calendar, chores, meals, and scheduling app for a household to share. It is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, and is not a substitute for professional scheduling, medical, childcare, or safety systems. Whoever operates a given copy of CommonSlate ("we," "us") is responsible for that installation and the data stored in it.

2. Accounts and family data

Creating an account requires an email address and password, handled through Firebase Authentication. Each account belongs to one "family" — a shared data space (calendar events, chores, meal plans, points, and similar household information) that anyone with a valid Family Code can join. Keep your Family Code private the way you would a house key: anyone who has it can join your family's shared data and see everything in it.

3. What we store and why

We store the information you and your family members enter into the app (names, avatars, events, chores, meal plans, reward points, photos you choose to add, and, if you turn on notifications, a device token used to deliver push notifications). This data is stored using Google Firebase (Firestore) and is used solely to provide the app's features to your family. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

4. Notifications

If you enable notifications, your device is registered to receive push alerts about new events, chores, and reward redemptions added by your family, and reminders shortly before scheduled events. You can turn notifications off at any time from the Family tab, which removes your device's registration.

5. Children's information

CommonSlate is intended to be operated by a parent or guardian on behalf of their household. Information about children (names, avatars, schedules, chores) is entered and controlled by the adult(s) who set up the family account, not collected directly from children. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions about information stored about your child, contact the person who administers your family's CommonSlate.

6. Your responsibilities

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials and Family Code secure, for the accuracy of the information you enter, and for making sure only people you trust have access to your family's data.

7. Backups and data loss

Use the Backup & Restore feature in the Family tab periodically to save a local copy of your data. While the app syncs to the cloud automatically, no service is immune to data loss, and we're not liable for lost, corrupted, or delayed data.

8. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time as the app changes. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the current terms.

9. Contact

Questions about these terms or your data can be directed to whoever administers your family's CommonSlate installation.
